From Noorani Qaida to Quran Reading: How the Journey Works

Noorani Qaida is a common first step for beginners. Here is how it leads to reading the Quran, and how to know when to move on.

Short answer

Noorani Qaida is a beginner's primer that teaches the Arabic letters, vowel marks and joining letters step by step. Once a learner can read its later lessons accurately, they move on to reading the Quran itself, usually starting with short, familiar passages.

What Noorani Qaida is

Noorani Qaida is a short primer used widely to teach beginners to read the Quran. It moves from single letters to joined letters, vowel marks and longer combinations, with each lesson building on the last.

What the Qaida covers

  • Single letters and their sounds
  • Joined letter forms
  • Short vowel marks
  • Longer sounds and other reading signs
  • Short words and phrases built from earlier lessons

Signs a learner is ready to move on

  • They read the later Qaida lessons accurately without long pauses
  • They recognise letters in their joined forms
  • They can read new words they have not seen before

What comes next

After the Qaida, learners begin reading the Quran itself, often with short chapters first. Our Quran Recitation (Nazra) course builds this fluency. Once reading is fluent, learners can move on to Tajweed or memorisation.

Do not rush the Qaida

It is tempting to move to the Quran quickly, but gaps in the basics slow everything later. A teacher can tell when the learner is truly ready.

Noorani Qaida with Tajweed, Lesson 1: The Single Letters (Mufradat), Part A

The first video in our Noorani Qaida series. It introduces the single Arabic letters (Mufradat) one at a time, the very first step towards reading the Quran, and gives parents and beginners a clear feel for how our teachers explain each stage before you book a free trial. Parents can watch it with their child to see what the very first stage of reading looks like and how letters are introduced one by one. In live lessons the same first stage is taught one-to-one, with the teacher listening to the learner and correcting pronunciation straight away, so mistakes do not become habits. When the single letters are secure, learners move on to joined letters, vowel marks and, in time, fluent Quran reading.
