Short answer
Children memorise the Quran best with short daily sessions, lots of listening and repetition, regular revision, encouragement from parents and a teacher who hears their memorisation every lesson.
Short and daily
Children's attention spans are short, so memorisation sessions should be too. A short daily session is far more effective than a long weekly one.
Listen, repeat, recite
Many children memorise best by listening to a passage several times, repeating it in small parts, and then reciting it without looking. The teacher checks accuracy before the child moves on.
Small, visible goals
A line, a verse or a short chapter is a manageable target. Marking each completed part on a chart helps children see their progress.
Revision keeps it
Children can memorise quickly and forget quickly. Build revision into every week, and ask the teacher to hear older parts regularly.
Encouragement, not pressure
Memorisation should feel like an achievement, not a burden. Praise effort, celebrate milestones and talk to the teacher if your child seems anxious.
A first goal for children
The 30th Para is a common first goal for children because its chapters are short. See our 30th Para Hifz course.
