- December 11, 2025
Learn to recite Surah Al-Asr word by word with proper Quran Tilawat and Tajweed. This short yet powerful Surah carries a deep message about time, faith, righteous deeds, and patience.
This Surah takes its name from the word Al-‘Asr (Time) mentioned in the very first verse.
Although scholars such as Mujahid, Qatadah, and Muqatil considered Surah Al-Asr to be Madani, the majority of commentators agree that it is Makki.
Its concise yet impactful message clearly shows that it was revealed during the early Makkan period, when the teachings of Islam were delivered in brief but unforgettable verses that were easily memorized.
Imam Ash-Shafi’i (رحمه الله) said:
“If people were to reflect upon this Surah alone, it would be sufficient for their guidance.”
The importance of this Surah is also reflected in the practice of the Sahabah (رضي الله عنهم). It is reported that whenever two companions met, they would not part until they recited Surah Al-Asr to one another. (Tabarani)
