When to choose it
Choose online classes when you want a consistent Quran teacher in New Zealand without travel, at times that fit school and work.
- Timezones
- NZST/NZDT (New Zealand Standard and Daylight Time, one timezone for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and the rest of the mainland)
- Scheduling lessons
- New Zealand is one of the first countries to start each day, so we plan lessons around your local afternoon and evening. After-school slots and early evenings are the most popular, with Saturday mornings for families who prefer the weekend.
- Getting in touch
- Message us on WhatsApp or email. We reply to agree a trial time in your local time.
A smaller community, a reliable teacher
In many New Zealand towns there may be only a small Muslim community and few regular Quran teachers. Online one-to-one lessons mean a child can keep the same teacher week after week, however far they live from a mosque or Islamic centre.
Planning around New Zealand time
The whole of mainland New Zealand shares one timezone, which makes scheduling simple. Clocks move forward in late September and back in early April. Your lesson is booked in New Zealand time, so it stays at the same local time when the clocks change.
Short, regular lessons work best
For younger children we usually suggest short lessons on several days a week rather than one long session. Little and often helps young learners remember letters and sounds, and it fits more easily into after-school life with sport, homework and family time.
Accountability you can see
Lessons are taught one-to-one through our MAKTAB learning platform. Every lesson is supervised and recorded, and parents of children receive a monthly PDF progress report. If you have a question between reports, you can message the team on WhatsApp or by email.
Where to start
If your child is starting from the beginning, the first step is the Arabic letters. Read Quran reading for beginners or simply book a free trial and the teacher will suggest the right starting point.
Watch
Quran Reading
Noorani Qaida with Tajweed, Lesson 1: The Single Letters (Mufradat), Part A
The first video in our Noorani Qaida series. It introduces the single Arabic letters (Mufradat) one at a time, the very first step towards reading the Quran, and gives parents and beginners a clear feel for how our teachers explain each stage before you book a free trial. Parents can watch it with their child to see what the very first stage of reading looks like and how letters are introduced one by one. In live lessons the same first stage is taught one-to-one, with the teacher listening to the learner and correcting pronunciation straight away, so mistakes do not become habits. When the single letters are secure, learners move on to joined letters, vowel marks and, in time, fluent Quran reading.
